Crystal Myslajek is a multi-instrumentalist, performer, and composer, who blends looping, ethereal vocals, and effects with minimalist, post-classical, jazz, and pop forms. She is an avid collaborator across disciplines including experimental film, performance art, theater, and dance. Recent projects include, Cove, released on Moon Glyph, Sea of Being, a collaboration with Aros E-V and the steward, the rev.web released on Corrector Records, Stasis & Motion, a collaborative sound-film piece commissioned by the Walker Art Center; Circadia, an album released on Water Wing Records; a multimedia piece for the 2016 Red Eye Theater Isolated Acts commission; multimedia compositions commissioned by the Cedar Cultural Center’s 416 Club; collaborations with playwright Rachel Jendrzejewski and SuperGroup performance collaborative; and Reflectors, a collaborative music/film piece which she co-presented at the Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival and the Eco Park Film Center in 2016, and at the MONO NO AWARE international film exhibition in Brooklyn, NY in 2015. Myslajek sang and played bass guitar in IE and Brute Heart. The trio was awarded City Pages’ 2012 Best Female Vocalist, featured in filmmaker Doug Aitken’s Station to Station project, and commissioned by the Walker Art Center to compose a score for The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.

Terry Riley's Keyboard Study No. 2 by IE out on Drone Not Drones


In June of 2018, IE devised a special live arrangement of Terry Riley's Keyboard Study No. 2 for a performance at the Cedar Cultural Center with composer Lawrence English. Riley's Study is a modular, open-form work of minimalism from the 1960s that stemmed from the composer's own work as a performer on electric organ. From the original theme of four endlessly twirling notes repeated hundreds of times on the piano, IE develops Riley's composition into an exhausting, cathartic marathon, flowing upward in spiritual ascent.
